Martlets Fall in Rematch

Hosting at Hop Meadow on another beautiful afternoon for golf, the Black and Gold struggled to find their best games and fell 2-3 in its rematch against Ethel Walker School.  Similar to recent matches, this one was again close with all matches resting on a razor’s edge, especially in the middle holes when no lead was secure.   Cindion Huang ‘25 played solidly, posting a low score of 43 and defeating her opponent 3/2.  Her short game was particularly effective and positioned her to take advantage of her strong putting stroke.  Lucy Wainwright ‘25 and Taylor Horgan ‘24 were both locked into tight matches, taking the lead and then losing it, before both matches ended in a tie.  From this coach’s perspective, it’s always exciting when a match’s outcome comes down to the final hole.  Annabelle Kreiger ‘27 competed well again, losing 1 down, but not after playing some of her best golf of the season, demonstrating consistent ball striking and smooth putting.  In the final group both Grace Li ‘26 and Lauren Levinson ‘26 enjoyed some good camaraderie as they too had plenty of back and forth against their Walkers opponents.  Levinson, in her first competitive match, struggled early before finding a groove and putting together a string of good holes that included a lovely par on the final hole of the round.  Li also showed how far her own game has evolved, playing confidently and strategically throughout the match.  Next up is a tri- match against power houses Loomis and Taft.
